Many voters expect to be asked about their motivations for going to the polls. They typically bring up the candidates or issues about health care or the economy.
Talking with a reporter, Alex Garcia, 28, joked about Instagram.
鈥淚 just want my Instagram to be about me again, and how good I look:鈥 read the tweet by Lautaro Grinspan, a journalist with the Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald.
I just spoke with 28yr-old Miamian Alex Garcia. He said he woke up today thinking he was going to vote for Trump BUT he changed his mind at the voting booth. He ended up picking Biden to 鈥済o back to normal.鈥

The tweet went viral. and the picked up the story.
鈥淚 tweeted that little blurb thinking I would inject a touch of humor into what was a pretty tense evening,鈥 Grinspan said.
said he didn鈥檛 anticipate his exchange would gain this much attention.

鈥淚 think a lot of people are really over this kind of tension and anxiety we feel on social media,鈥 he told WLRN. 鈥淚t鈥檚 crazy because I鈥檓 seeing friends and even parents of friends fighting with people on the internet. It鈥檚 Instagram. It鈥檚 supposed to be fun.鈥
Garcia, a fashion brands recruiter and a realtor, was planning to cast a vote-by-mail ballot. He was ready to vote for President Trump given his Cuban-American background.
鈥淭he Republican Party is definitely where Cubans tend to go towards, so I鈥檝e always grown up that way,鈥 he said.
Garcia waited until the last minute to return his mail-in ballot so he decided to vote in person on Election Day. When he arrived at his polling place, the West Kendall Regional Library, he changed his mind and voted for former Vice President Joe Biden.
鈥淚t鈥檚 difficult as a progressive person that鈥檚 actually left Miami and seen different sides of the world,鈥 Garcia said. 鈥淎s a gay man, it鈥檚 conflicting. I have friends in the drag scene. That鈥檚 why I switched my vote at the end for all my friends that seem to be really affected by Trump and the things he says.鈥
Garcia said he doesn鈥檛 usually share his political views, so the fact that he鈥檚 become associated with politics online is hilarious to him.
鈥淚t says a lot about society,鈥 he said. 鈥淵ou would think the dumbest person on earth said that statement. There鈥檚 a lot of people that are really fascinated with being popular on Instagram. That鈥檚 why I made that joke and why it had to do with politics.鈥
The story developed beyond the initial hype of the election. BuzzFeed published a story with another person named Alex Garcia who took credit for the Instagram line. Grinspan alerted the reporter and a correction was issued.
鈥淚t remains a bit of an enigma with this other guy,鈥 Grinspan said.
Not to belabor this, but Miami truly outdid itself.聽Turns out *another* Alex Garcia pretended to have spoken with me (for Buzzfeed clout?? idk either).聽 this is not the person I ran into at the polls
— Lautaro Grinspan (@lautarogrinspan)
Garcia said he contacted his so-called doppelg盲nger who blocked him on Instagram.
鈥淚 blame my mom for that because Alex Garcia is probably the most common name I鈥檝e ever heard,鈥 he said.
It is 鈥 at least in Miami.
