Broward School Board Wants More Than 1-Day Suspension For Teacher In Hugging Case

The Broward School Board rejected a recommendation that Miramar High math teacher Karleef Jamel Kebreau, 42, receive a one-day suspension after an investigation concluded he gave hugs and made inappropriate comments to six female students.

The Broward School Board said no to a light punishment for a teacher accused of giving frequent unwanted hugs to students, with one member saying she’d support termination.

Superintendent Robert Runcie recommended that Miramar High math teacher Karleef Jamel Kebreau, 42, receive a one-day suspension after an investigation concluded he gave “full-frontal” hugs and made inappropriate comments to six female students, as reported by the .

“I have zero tolerance for sexual harassment,” Board member Laurie Rich Levinson said, suggesting Kebreau be fired. “We are about protecting our students, and multiple student came forward about a teacher in a school. We have to take it seriously.”
