In the quest for votes, candidates often vie for high profile endorsements.
In North Miami, the city has a history of mayoral candidates seeking and receiving endorsements from the son of the most high: Jesus Christ.
On Tuesday, campaign workers for North Miami mayoral candidate Jean Marcellus handed out fliers to voters with his picture and the word "Jesus" in bold blue print. The flier also had a declaration in French: "Victory in the blood of Jesus."
Marcellus was not immediately available for comment.
Marcellus' supporters also invoked Jesus Christ and religious parables on Creole-language radio Tuesday while encouraging listeners to turn out in large numbers to support the former city councilman.
"God will stand with you like David," says one radio host in Creole. "We will see later if we will not celebrate with Jean Rodrigue Marcellus. Victory is ours."
Marcellus, Kevin Burns and Dr. Smith Joseph are running to replace former , who was after she was arrested for alleged mortgage fraud.
This is not the first time a North Miami candidate has used Jesus Christ on campaign literature.
Last year, then mayoral candidate On election day, she presented voters with fliers that depicted a blonde Jesus with the words "Anna Pierre is endorsed by Jesus Christ."
When she lost the election, Pierre wrote in an email to supporters that the city's residents chose Lucifer "over Jesus."
