A letter grade can be one of the clearest methods to communicate quality. The USDA uses it for meat. S&P uses letter grades for credit ratings. The state of Florida uses it for public schools.
But the leaders of the two largest public school districts in the state have little or no confidence in the current letter grading system used by Florida.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho and Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie tell WLRN's Sunshine Economy the number of changes to the grading criteria, changes to testing procedures and a disconnect between the current FCAT testing content and Common Core standards strategy are problems with how Florida schools are graded.
